As the UK’s leading diabetes charity, we support people living with diabetes, work to prevent type 2 diabetes, make research discoveries, and find a cure.

About our North Devon Support Group

Our groups are run by a committee, with a chair, treasurer, secretary who lead activities and share tasks. Our North Devon Committee host public information meetings held at the Roundswell Community Centre in Barnstaple, support local awareness events and social activities.

They are looking for a new Lead Volunteer (Chair) who can help with running the group meetings, coffee mornings and social events, so they can continue to support people with both the physical and emotional impact of diabetes.

What our group does:

Monthly information meetings, often with a guest Healthcare speaker
• Coffee mornings and physical activity groups • Keep in touch with members – phone call catch ups and regular updates
• Awareness raising events – including Diabetes Awareness Week and World Diabetes Day • The group has a website https://north-devon.diabetesukgroup.org/ which is kept up to date by volunteers • Moving online – there is potential for the group to set up information and support meetings online to add to their current programme

You’ll be joining a group of friendly volunteers and use your energy, skills and ideas to make a real difference. You’ll also be supported by our staff team based at our Taunton office who’ll be on hand to help you settle in and provide ongoing support and training.

Main tasks and other activities:

Organise and host meetings, events and activities • Lead the committee and group • Be the main point of contact • Advertise group activities

About you:

You’re friendly, active and you like working with people from all backgrounds
• You enjoy organising and sharing out tasks and activities • You’re good with social media (optional)

Our volunteer recruitment and selection is fair, safe and consistent. For this role you’ll need to fill out our online Application Form, give 2 references and complete a Basic Criminal Record check. This is paid for by Diabetes UK.
