About our Exeter Children’s Snack Pack Group

Our children's and families groups bring children living with type 1 diabetes and their families together so they can feel supported, share their experiences and worries, spend time together, make friends and know they’re not on their own.

Our Exeter Snack Pack group is led by a volunteer committee with a Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and committee members. They offer support, both practical and emotional, to newly diagnosed families and those who have lived with diabetes for many years. The group hold a bank account, and process donations and payments.

They are looking for new volunteers who can help support the group’s lead volunteers with the planning and running of activities, parents coffee mornings and social events.

What our group does:

  • Plan and run local family events, such as fun adventure activities, ice skating and crazy golf, cinema and theatre trips
  • Parents Coffee mornings, once a month on a Friday
  • Run their closed Facebook Support Group
  • Update their public website Diabetes UK - Local Groups - Exeter Children's Snack Pack (diabetesukgroup.org)
  • Keeping in touch with members by email or phone
  • Raise awareness of our work
  • Advertising to promote meetings and volunteering roles
  • Fundraising to support events

Main tasks and other activities:

  • Support with planning and running activities
  • Help advertise group activities
  • Be a signatory for group banking (optional)

About you:

  • You’re friendly, active and you like working with people from all backgrounds
  • You enjoy helping out and getting things done
  • You’re good with social media (optional)

Many families say Exeter Snack Pack Group has been a lifeline for them while learning to manage and live with type 1 diabetes. You’ll be joining a group of friendly and committed volunteers and have the chance to use your creativity, skills, and ideas to make a real difference. You’ll also be supported by our regional staff team who’ll be on hand to help you settle in and provide ongoing support and training.
