The Diabetes Lived Experience Advisory Committee (DLEA) is a voluntary group of people affected by diabetes, bringing the collective voice to the heart of our plans and work, through regular consultation and involvement. This group aims to include people at risk of diabetes, parents/carers and family members in addition to people living with any type of diabetes.
Being a part of DLEA isn’t just about an individual voice - we support members to link with their local area and diabetes community, to understand what is happening on the ground and represent all voices of those affected by diabetes, feeding this into long-term strategic projects internally within the charity. Each member can volunteer for up to 2 terms of 3 years each.
The group meets on a quarterly basis. The meetings are attended by our CEO, Executive Team and Involvement Team as well as other members of the charity which allows for an opportunity for members to share insights and feedback ideas directly to those working in the organisation. Beyond these quarterly meetings there will also be opportunities to join smaller projects. This could include shorter, focus group style meetings, joining a subgroup that works on a specific project or it could mean a member acting as a representative at a one-off event/activity.
Diabetes does not affect everyone equally and as a charity we are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion. This means we actively seek to involve a diverse group of people in our Diabetes Lived Experience Advisory Committee. We’d particularly welcome applications from groups who are currently underrepresented, including those from Black African, Black Caribbean and Asian backgrounds, people under 40 and those living with Type 2.
It also means if you have a disability or long-term condition, we're happy to consider any reasonable adjustments you might need to get involved, just let us know by emailing involvement@diabetes.org.uk
Note in order to share more specific opportunities with you, we'll ask you which region or nation you live in as part of our application process. To see our boundaries please click here to see our map
